Local business makes it to Round 2 in Chase Bank Business Grant contest
A quarter of a million dollars is on the line in the Chase Bank – Mission Small Business Grant contest.
To participate, a business had to sign up for the contest and get people to vote for the business. At least 250 votes were needed for a company to move to round 2.
Autowranglers.com received more than three times the needed votes. When public participation in the contest closed, the business had 862 votes.
“That’s just phenomenal,” said Barry Barbee, president of AutoWranglers.com . “The sheer number of votes we received, especially for being in business for the short time we’ve been around, tells me we’re doing something right.”
AutoWranglers buys old junk cars and, with the seller’s permission, donates the purchase price to a charity. The seller can designate a charity or AutoWranglers.com can suggest one.
Chase Bank joined with LivingSocial Inc to make the grants possible. The idea, according to the website announcing the program is “to increase awareness of the important role small businesses play in local communities and to help small businesses grow.”
Only small businesses, with less than 100 employees, were eligible to participate.
“I know every small business owner who signed up to participate in this contest appreciates it, whether they win or not,” Mr. Barbee said. “To have one of the world’s largest banks recognize the importance of the small business this way just underscores the real and true value we bring to our communities and the nation. Chase is to be commended for making this effort.”
Vehicle dealerships, like AutoWranglers.com , buy and trade cars from across the nation. This creates a cash flow which reaches from border to border. By itself, one such transaction doesn’t amount to much, Mr. Barbee said, but when multiplied by the number of times this happens in a week, it amounts to a lot.
