Since 1914, residents of Greene County, Missouri (and adjoining counties) have sought help from MU Extension in areas related to agriculture, gardening, Master Gardeners, 4-H, nutrition, cooking, families, Master Naturalists and business and community development. During 2012 over 25,000 residents of Greene County received unbiased and research-based information, assistance or education through the Greene County Extension Center. Unfortunately, a 90% budget cut in 2011 by the Greene County Commission has made office operations more difficult. All monies raised from this effort will go toward our basic office operations (one secretary, phone bill, supplies, printing and copies). Each of these expenses makes it possible to continue providing support for Extension programs that impact residents in Greene County and neighboring Missouri counties. (See our website for more budget and financial information).
The mission of University of Missouri Extension is to serve Missouri by extending the research-based knowledge and problem-solving resources of the University of Missouri System to people throughout the state. The Greene County Extension Council is the publicly elected governing body that helps MU Extension identify and address local issues. The Greene County Extension Council is also the official governing body for the MU Extension Center in Greene County and manage local operations and all donations.
